Kawasaki has updated its portfolio with the launch of the 2022 Ninja 400 in several international markets. The latest iteration of the fully-faired motorcycle gets mechanical upgrades to comply with the latest emission norms. Thus, the motorcycle is now Euro5-compliant, which is equivalent to the BS6 emission norms. Here we explain the top details of the 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400.

Updated Engine

The major upgrade to the 2022 iteration of the motorcycle comes in the form of an updated engine that complies with the BS6 emission norms. The 2022 Ninja 400 continues to use a 399cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that makes 44bhp and 37Nm of peak torque. While the power output remains unchanged, the torque has come down by 1Nm over the predecessor. The motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch mechanism.

Design

The design remains unchanged, and the 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 continues to feature a Ninja H2-inspired styling which includes a sharp twin-pod headlight, fairing-integrated front turn indicators, fairing-mounted rear-view mirrors, muscular 14-litre fuel tank, split-style seat, and a side-slung exhaust with dual-tone finish. The 2022 version, similar to its predecessor, uses a trellis frame.

Colours

The 2022 version is available in two colours — Lime Green with Ebony (KRT Edition) and Metallic Carbon Gray with Metallic Matte Carbon Gray. The Lime Green with Ebony (KRT Edition) features sporty decals across the fairing, fuel tank, and rear panel. The Metallic Carbon Gray with Metallic Matte Carbon Gray, on the other hand, gets a stealthier look with a few highlights of green on the fairing and the alloy wheels.

Same Hardware

The hardware on the 2022 version remains similar to its predecessor. Thus, the Ninja 400 continues to use 41mm telescopic front forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock to handle the suspension tasks. The braking duties are handled by a single 310mm and a single 220mm disc at the front and back, respectively. The motorcycle is built around a steel trellis frame and it tips the weighing scale at 168kg (kerb). Other key dimensions include 140mm of ground clearance, 785mm of seat height, and 1,370mm of wheelbase.

Expected India launch and price

The 2022 Ninja 400 complies with the Euro5 emission norms, which are equivalent to the BS6 standards. Thus, we expect the motorcycle to arrive in the Indian market, albeit in limited numbers. If launched, it may carry a premium over its predecessor’s Rs 4.98 lakh (ex-showroom).
