Market introduction
The Hyundai Casper is expected to be brought to India in 2022.
Engine and specifications
It will be offered with a 1.0-litre MPi engine that produces 68bhp and 95Nm and will be mated to a five-speed manual. The more powerful versions will be fitted with Hyundai’s 1.0-litre turbo petrol that produces 98bhp and 172Nm. This engine is offered as standard with a five-speed manual but we also expect Hyundai to include a five-speed AMT as a part of the deal.
Exterior design
The Casper features a compact and upright design with many chunky elements to give it a big appearance. The face gets round low set headlamps, a large silver grille and LED DRLs near the top, a feature that’s become common with Hyundai SUVs nowadays. In profile, the Casper get square wheel arches, upright stance, flush door handles for the second row and large wheels to complete the full SUV appearance. The rear gets a large bumper with big tail lamps and LED indicators for that added premium appearance.
Interior and features
The available images indicate a mostly black cabin with white inserts in the seats. It’s expected to conform to the segment in terms of dimensions and will be around 100mm shorter than the Venue compact SUV. The India-spec car is expected to get features like touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, height adjustment for the driver, six airbags, digital instrument cluster as well rear arm rest with cup holders.

Rivals
Upon arrival in India, it will be placed below the B-segment compact SUV, the Venue and will be the smallest SUV in the South Korean car-maker’s India portfolio. There are no details with respect to the expected powertrain options on the car but we can expect it to come powered by small displacement engines with manual and automatic transmission. The AX concept if launched in India could be priced between the Rs 4 to 7 lakh price bracket and we can expect Hyundai to reveal it at the next Auto Expo.
