The newly launched Suzuki Katana has started to arrive at the dealerships in the Indian market. The litre-class model, which is imported via the CBU route, has been priced at Rs 13.61 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In the Indian market, the Suzuki Katana rivals the likes of the BMW S1000 XR and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX.

This new model from the Japanese manufacturer features a monocoque-style bodywork and packs styling elements such as a rectangular shaped headlight, a tinted flyscreen, fairing integrated turn indicators, and rear-fender mounted numberplate and turn indicators. The mechanical specifications include a 999cc, inline-four, liquid-cooled engine that produces 149bhp and 106Nm of peak torque.

The feature list isn’t as comprehensive as its rivals, and while the Suzuki Katana uses full-LED lighting, it misses Bluetooth connectivity. The information-rich instrument console, however, shows a wide range of information. These include a digital speedometer, bar-style tachometer, odometer, dual trip meters, gear position, coolant temperatures, driving range, average fuel consumption, instantaneous fuel consumption, riding range, traction control level, a lap-timer, and a clock. The electronic rider aids comprise three ride modes, cornering ABS, five-level traction control system, low RPM assist, Suzuki Easy Start System, and bi-directional quickshifter.

The hardware on the Katana includes a twin-spar aluminium main frame, an aluminium swingarm, 43mm inverted KYB front forks, a rear monoshock, twin 310mm discs with Brembo callipers at the front, and a single 240mm rotor with a Nissin-sourced calliper. The motorcycle is available in two colours in the Indian market – Metallic Mat Stellar Blue and Metallic Mystic Silver.
