Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 2022 Overview
Last Updated On 13th Jul’22: Maruti is now accepting bookings for the upcoming Grand Vitara SUV. The booking amount stands at Rs 11,000. Maruti is bringing back the Grand Vitara name after a decade in India. The SUV was discontinued in 2013 after sales figures dropped to double digits. Though the company did use ‘Vitara’ name for the Brezza initially, with the recent update to the sub 4m compact SUV, Maruti decided to call it just the Breeza and for the right seasons. The Grand Vitara will be a proper 4m plus SUV that will lock horns with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, MG Astor and the Kia Seltos. The SUV also share a lot in common with the recently showcased Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
Maruti Grand Vitara 2022 Engines
As expected, the Grand Vitara will not be offered with a diesel engine. Instead, Maruti will have two petrol units for this SUV. The first is the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated non turbo engine that powers the XL6 and the Brezza. This engine will have SHVS or smart hybrid vehicle system. Essentially a mild hybrid, this unit has a separate battery for an electric motor that assists the engine, thereby improving fuel economy. This unit produces 102 PS of power and 135Nm of torque. Both 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic will be available along with optional AWD reserved for the former transmission. The second engine will be the a similar capacity motor with a strong hybrid set up. This means users will be able to run on EV only mode – something we have seen with the Honda City Hybrid. Combined output will be 115PS along with 122Nm of torque. An e-drive (automatic) will be standard.

Maruti has not disclosed (as of 13 July) how the Grand Vitara would look like. However, the dimensions will be similar to the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. This means the Grand Vitara will be about 4365mm long, 1795mm wide and 1635mm high. The top end models are expected to come with 17inch alloy wheels with 215mm wide tyres. Maruti will also offer LED lights all around and a futuristic yet muscular design theme. More details will be out on the 20th of July.

Maruti’s latest models are fast catching up with modern day rivals in terms of tech and features. The new Grand Vitara will offer goodies like a panoramic sunroof, smartphone connectivity, wireless chairing, ventilated seats, head up display (HUD), paddle shifters (Automatic), 360 camera and as many as 6 Airbags. Expect a long list of official accessories that customers will be able to pick from the dealer level. Talking of which, the Grand Vitara will be sold via Nexa outlets only.

Maruti might not reveal pricing for the Grand Vitara soon. 20th of July is when the SUV will break cover officially along with variant line up and engines. We expect Maruti to undercut rivals of the mid-size SUV which means a possible starting price of under Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom
