It may sound as a brand new model – which, mind you, it is – but the Mahindra XUV700 new model is essentially the second-gen XUV500. Introduced in 2021, the introductory Mahindra XUV700 price really disrupted the mid-size SUV segment, breaking a lot of barriers for Mahindra. Of the all Mahindra XUV700 variants, it’s the AX7 – the top-spec variant – that comes with the snazziest exterior bits. LED headlamps and taillamps are the vogue these days and the car comes with those, plus it also get dynamic indicators both at the front as well as the rear. The DRLs extend down the bumper and resemble the shape of the XUV500’s bumper, keeping itself in line with the familiarity. The sides are clean thanks to the flush door handles and the rear is as subtle as they come. The tailgate is plastic, but it’s made with good quality fibre.

The 2021 Mahindra XUV700, as said above, bears its most features in the top-spec AX7 trim. On top of that, Mahindra has also enabled buyers the option to choose from different packs. The top-spec trim comes with LED headlights, LED taillights, a 3D Sony surround system, a 360-degree camera system, a fully digital instrument cluster and driving modes for the diesel version, among other things. The top-spec Mahindra XUV700 on-road price also gets you 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, leatherette seats, and a large panoramic sunroof.

Sure, the exterior of the Mahindra XUV700 turns heads, but it’s also the interior that wows everyone. The driver sits facing a continuous flowing panel that holds two sizeable screens, one for the infotainment and the other for the instrument cluster. The door panel snazzily mounts the switches for the powered seats at the front, while the seat themselves – finished in leatherette – are well-bolstered and provide good comfort. For people in the back, there’s a large panoramic sunroof for that airy feeling plus you get the option of third row of seats for people who have large families.  

Mahindra XUV700 Engine specifications & performance

The new Mahindra XUV700 is powered by the same set of engine and transmission options as the Mahindra Thar. First off, it’s the 2.0-litre turbo petrol that pushes out 197bhp and 380Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic gearbox. Next up, and the pick of many, is the 2.2-litre diesel engine, which is good for 153bhp and 360Nm of torque. It also comes mated to the same set of transmissions as the petrol engine.
