Yamaha R15S Bike Latest Updates

Yamaha has given the R15S its biggest update yet and it comes powered with the R15 V4’s engine. Check out the launch story here.

Yamaha R15S Engine

The R15S is powered by R15 V4’s 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled 4-valve motor with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). It makes 18.4PS and 14.2Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It is now OBD-2 compliant and also compatible with E20 fuel (20% ethanol and 80% petrol blend). It also gets a slip-and-assist clutch. The signature Deltabox frame has been tweaked a bit for the R15S. The India-spec motorcycle employs a 41mm conventional telescopic fork and an aluminium swingarm with a monoshock unit. Braking hardware comprises a 282mm front disc with a twin-piston caliper and a 220mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper. The R15S rolls on 17-inch alloys shod with a 100/80 bias-ply front and 140/70 radial rear tyre.

Yamaha R15S Variants

Yamaha offers the R15S in Racing Blue and Matte Black colours both priced at Rs 1,63,400 ex-showroom Delhi.

Yamaha R15S Design

The highlight of the Yamaha R15S V3 is the “practical” single-seat configuration. With this model, Yamaha intends to make the supersport more suited to everyday use. Yamaha hasn’t tinkered around with the styling of the new R15. Like most supersport bikes, it gets sharp and edgy bodywork. The Racing Blue variant gets refreshed graphics, a silver strip, and the R15 logo plastered across the fairing.

Key Features of Yamaha R15S

The Yamaha R15 features sleek twin LED headlights and an LED tail lamp. It gets a full-digital LCD dash that displays a range of information. You get two trip meters, an average fuel efficiency indicator, a gear position indicator, and a bar-type tachometer. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard. The R15S also gets Variable Valve Actuation, Yamaha lingo for variable valve timing. Thanks to the tech, the R15 can eke out maximum top-end performance without sacrificing on low-end grunt.

Yamaha R15S Competitors

The Yamaha R15S has no direct rivals. The Suzuki Gixxer SF offers similar displacement but its motor isn’t as sophisticated or powerful. The KTM RC 125 matches it and in some accounts, even surpasses the R15 in terms of kit offered. However, it is not only more expensive but also lacks performance.
