Harley Davidson X440 Engine

The roadster is powered by an all-new 440cc, 2-valve, air-oil-cooled single pot motor. It produces 28PS at 6000rpm and 38Nm at 4000rpm. In fact, the company claims 90 percent of the torque comes in at as low as 2000rpm. The motor is mated to a six-speed gearbox and gets a slip and assist clutch. In terms of rider aid, you get traction control and dual-channel ABS. That said, in motion the bike does let out a sweet thump. The new engine rests in a trellis frame which is suspended on an 43mm upside down fork (USD) at the front, and gas-charged, preload-adjustable dual shocks at the back. The X440 runs on 18-/17-inch alloy wheels (spoke rims in base variant) shod in new MRF Zapper Hyke tyres – 100/80-18 (front) and 140/70-17 (rear). Braking is managed by a 320mm disc with axially-mounted ByBre caliper at the front and 240mm disc at the back. Dual channel ABS is offered as standard. It weighs 190.5kg kerb, has a seat height of 805mm and a decent 170mm of ground clearance.

The X440 is available in three variants – ‘Denim’, ‘Vivid’ and ‘S’. Much like the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 variant segmentation, the ‘Classic’ gets a basic yellow colour scheme, blacked-out engine fins, and spoke wheels. The mid-spec ‘Vivid’ gets alloy wheels, blacked-out fins, and dual-tone colours, and the top-spec ‘S’ gets more premium colour tones along with machined engine fins, machined alloy wheels and Bluetooth connectivity.

Harley Davidson X440 Design

The Harley-Davidson X440 features a strong neo-retro stance and borrows some of its styling cues from the iconic Harley-Davidson XR1200. It gets a retro-styled round LED headlight and a cool modern looking LED DRL strip with ‘Harley-Davidson’ etched on it. In fact, all-LED lighting is offered as standard. The boxy 13.5-litre peanut style fuel tank gives the bike a butch look and complements the one-piece seat design rather well. That said, the exhaust sticks out like a sore thumb because it’s neither on level to the floor for a clean classic look, nor is it upswept for a sportier theme.

Even though this Harley-Davidson is meant to be a pocket friendly bike, the features on offer are pretty impressive. In the top spec variant, the TFT console is Bluetooth enabled and features turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alert etc. In the lower two variants, the TFT gets standard readouts like – real-time mileage, distance to empty, gear position indicator, in addition to the tell tail lights.
