The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is the spiritual successor to the Continental GT 535, and is powered by an all-new 648cc parallel twin engine. With a cafe racer design and slightly committed ergonomics, it’s a great choice for those who are looking for a sporty yet retro middleweight.

 Price:

While the Rocker Red and British Racing Green variants cost Rs 3,19,000, the Dux Deluxe is priced at Rs 3,29,000 and Slipstream Blue/Apex Grey (alloy wheels) cost Rs 3,39,000. The range-topping Mr. Clean (chrome) variant will set you back by Rs 3,45,000. All prices, ex-showroom Delhi.

Features:

The Continental GT 650 gets clip-on handlebars, a single seat with a race cowl, smaller 12.5-litre fuel tank, and gets options for spoked wheels (tube tyres) or alloy wheels (tubeless) depending on the variant. The speedometer is a twin-pod analogue unit with a small digital display for the odometer and trip meters. It also flaunts an LED headlight and a USB charger socket.

Engine:

Powering the cafe racer is a BS6.2-compliant 648cc air and oil-cooled parallel-twin motor that makes 47.45PS at 7250rpm, and 52Nm at 5150rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox along with a slip-and-assist clutch. The bike is capable of sustaining triple digit speed effortlessly with minimal vibrations, thanks to the counterbalanced engine.

Suspension & Brakes:

The Continental GT employs a dual cradle frame and is linked to a conventional 41mm telescopic forks up front and twin gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear, which get preload adjustability. On the braking front, the bike gets a single 320mm disc coupled with ByBre four-piston calliper at the front, and a single 240mm disc brake at the rear. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard. It rolls on 18-inch wheels wrapped in Vredestein tyres, with a rear radial unit.

Rivals:

It competes against the Kawasaki Z650RS. For the price of the Continental GT 650, you could also get the Kawasaki Ninja 300, KTM 390 Duke, and the KTM RC 390.
