There are seventeen different variants of the Exter and it comes in nine different colours. Hyundai Exter is offered with petrol engine only with CNG option. The petrol engine has a displacement of 1197cc and produces 81.80bhp of power and a torque of 113.8nm while on CNG it produces 81.80bhp@6000rpm of power and a torque of 113.8nm@4000rpm. The Exter is available with both manual and automatic transmission options. The mileage of Exter varies from 19.2 Kmpl on petrol to 27.1km/kg on cng.

Hyundai has equipped the micro SUV with the same 83PS/114Nm, 1.2-litre petrol found in the Grand i10 Nios. A five-speed manual is standard, while a five-speed AMT is an optional transmission. A CNG kit paired to a 5-speed manual is also offered and has an output of 69PS and 95.2Nm in CNG mode. The Exter returns 19.4kmpl with the 1.2-litre manual powertrain and 19.2kmpl with the AMT gearbox. In CNG mode, it boasts a fuel efficiency of 27.1km/kg.
