Yamaha has discontinued the World GP 60th Anniversary Edition of the R15M. More about it here.

The Yamaha R15 V4 is the Japanese manufacturer’s flagship bike in India. It comes loaded with features and has a performance-packed engine. The R15 is perfect for riders who want to learn the nuances of track-riding under a budget.

Yamaha R15 V4 Engine

Yamaha R15 V4 is powered by a single-cylinder, 155cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine which churns out 18.4PS and 14.2Nm. It is linked to a six-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch and even the R15M gets a similar treatment. It comes with two riding modes (Street & Track) and is built on a deltabox frame which is suspended on a 37mm USD front fork and linked monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by a 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc with standard dual-channel ABS. It rolls on 17 inch alloy wheels wrapped with 100-section front and 140-section rear tubeless tyres. The bike has a 11-litre fuel tank and weighs 141kg (kerb). It comes with 815mm seat height and 170mm of ground clearance.

Yamaha R15 V4 Variants

The Metallic Red and Dark Knight variants come with an optional quickshifter with the Racing Blue model having it as standard. The metallic Red variant comes with black alloys, Dark Knight variant features golden alloys while the Racing Blue variant sports blue-coloured alloys. That said, the Racing Blue variant even sports a transparent visor while the other two variants have it tinted. The 2023 Monster Energy MotoGP Edition variant costs Rs 1,97,200 (ex-showroom).

Yamaha R15 V4 Design

The Yamaha R15 v4 (along with R15M) takes its design cues from the R7 which is not sold in India. R15 V4 has an aerodynamic body with edgy body panels. It has a committed riding posture. The bi-functional projector LED headlight looks subtle and the twin LED DRLs add to its premium appeal. Further accentuating its looks are the upmarket-looking gold-finished inverted forks, muscular fuel tank and a split-seat setup. The sleek, high-set tail section is dominated by split tail panels, a gaudy looking yet functional tyre hugger, and an LED taillamp. Even the more premium R15M gets similar treatment in terms of features and mechanicals.

Key Features of Yamaha R15 V4

The R15 V4 packs an LCD instrument console with display modes: Street and Race. It gets Bluetooth connectivity via the Yamaha Y-Connect app to display Call/SMS/E-mail alerts, phone battery level but misses out on turn-by-turn navigation. The console even shows a lap timer, has shift timing indicator, along with regular trove of information. In addition to that, the R15 V4 comes with segment-first features such as standard traction control and optional quickshifter (only for upshifts). The bike also has dual-horn and a side stand engine cut-off feature. The indicators are bulb units.

Yamaha R15 V4 Competitors

There is no direct competition for the Yamaha R15 V4 in the Indian market as of today, but at this price point, one could still consider buying the Karizma XMR, KTM RC 125, Bajaj Pulsar RS200, and the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250.
