The 2023 Hyundai Verna has secured a full five stars in the Global NCAP crash safety test. It’s the first made-in-India Hyundai to secure a full five stars in the crash test, a commendable feat considering its offering such as the Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios fared poorly. The Korean marque’s compact sedan secured five stars in both the Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection parameters.

Hyundai’s compact sedan is offered in four broad trims and comes with petrol power only. The Verna 2023’s styling is now more bold, it gets a more upmarket interior and sees a big improvement to its safety kit. It’s also a size larger than the model it replaces.

Features of Hyundai Verna

Top new features offered with the 2023 Verna sedan include ventilated and heated seats (segment first), powered driver’s seat, Bose sound system, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Venue-like digital driver’s display, ambient lighting and mainly, a full ADAS suite. The sedan continues to offer equipment like automatic climate control, wireless phone charger, a sunroof, and keyless entry with button start. Apart from ADAS, the 2023 Verna gets six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS, parking sensors and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.

Hyundai Verna Engine

The Hyundai Verna 2023 comes with engine choices comprising a 115PS, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine and a new 160PS, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol mill. The new power units are compliant with RDE norms and are E20-compliant as well (they can run on petrol with 20 percent ethanol blend). A six-speed manual is offered as standard, while automatic options include a CVT and a seven-speed DCT, for the NA petrol and turbo-petrol engines, respectively. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Verna NA petrol returns 18.6kmpl and 19.6kmpl for the manual and automatic variants, respectively. On the other hand, the turbo-petrol variants claims to deliver 20kmpl and 20.6kmpl for the manual and automatic variants, respectively. Sizewise, the new Verna is 4,535mm long, 1,765mm wide, 1,475mm tall and sits on a 2,670mm wheelbase. It has a 528-litre boot volume.
