Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Highlights

The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has been given a refreshed design over its predecessor. The new car remains the same in terms of interior space and dimensions as the old model. Although the design changes are not very extensive, the new front-end design, especially the new grille, chrome elements and the new LED headlights are rather sleek and works well for the overall design of the car. The new dual-tone 16-inch alloys are also well styled and with wide 195-section tyres, lend the car quite a balanced and muscular stance. The rear taillights have also been upgraded to LED units and look pretty good. The 2018 Ciaz now also comes with an all-new mild-hybrid 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Car makers are soon giving up on producing diesel engines, for the upcoming BSVI emission regulations are a little too stringent. Also, the cost of manufacturing diesel engines with BSVI components will take Maruti Suzuki Ciaz prices (among others) through the roof. However, with the 2019 Ciaz and its in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel motor, Maruti isn’t ready to give up yet, for diesel cars account for about 30 percent of Maruti Suzuki’s sales. The refreshed Ciaz brings with a class-leading spacious cabin, good ride quality, a cosmetically reworked exterior and of course, a refined and strong diesel motor.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Interior

The interior design of the new Maruti Suzuki Ciaz new model gets a small upgrade too, with the basics remaining the same. The dual-tone overall layout is continued but the earlier dark wood gets updated by a new lighter coloured pattern which Maruti refers to as a birch blonde finish. The driver’s console also gets a new 4.2-inch TFT colour screen.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Engine specifications & performance

The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is powered by two engine options: a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 93bhp and 225Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, and a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 103bhp and 138Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. We drove the one with the diesel engine. Performance from the engine is more than sufficient, and the power is delivered in a linear manner. The engine also loves to rev and feels very smooth for the most part. The 6-speed transmission is slick and the clutch is nice and light as well. The ride is pliant, and the steering, though light, is not what you’d call an enthusiast’s delight.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Mileage

The 2018 Maruti Ciaz has an ARAI-certified fuel-efficiency figure of 21.56 km/l for the petrol (MT) and 28.09 km/l for the diesel engine.
