Ather launched its most affordable scooter, the 450S, in August this year. Here’s all that’s different on it. We even got a chance to ride it. Here’s everything we liked and disliked about it.
Price:
At Rs 1,29,999 (effective ex-showroom price, Bengaluru), the 450S is the most affordable Ather scooter in the market as of now.
Features:
The Ather 450S electric scooter now gets a new LCD console instead of the touchscreen TFT unit we’ve seen on the 450X. Its readability is very good even under harsh sunlight. If you opt for the Pro Pack (which costs Rs 14,000), you’ll have ride modes, auto indicator cut-off, auto brightness, call and music control, hill hold, coasting regen and an emergency stop signal. Along with this, you’ll also get the TrueRange display, guide-me-home lights as well as vehicle FallSafe (which will alert some of your contacts when you have a crash).
With Ather Connect, you will also get onboard navigation, documents’ storage, theft alert, find my scooter, intercity planner, ride statistics, savings tracker and a lot more through the application. Accompanying the new console is new switchgear on the 450S which also looks more premium than before. There’s LED lighting all around and the underseat storage space is good for 22-litres. The scooter is available in four colours: Space Grey, Still White, Salt Green and Cosmic Black.
Warranty for the Ather 450S and its battery, both stand at 3 years/ 30,000km, whichever is earlier. The charger warranty, meanwhile, is 3 years.
Powertrain:
The 450S electric scooter is powered by a 5.4kW motor that enables a 90kmph top speed. Ather claims that it’ll do 0-40kmph in 3.9 seconds. The Lithium-ion battery, meanwhile, is a 2.9kWh one through which the certified range stands at 115km. The TrueRange, meanwhile, stands at 90km for SmartEco, 85km for Eco mode, 75km for Ride mode and 70km for Sport mode. It can be charged from 0-80 percent in 6 hrs 36 minutes, while 0-100 will take 8 hrs 36 minutes (both from a home charger). The scooter also has access to Ather Grid, through which 0-50 percent charging will happen at the rate of 1.5km/min. 50-80 percent, meanwhile, will take place at 1km/min.
Suspension & Brakes:
The 450S is suspended on a telescopic fork along with a monoshock. Braking duties are taken care of by a 200mm front and 190mm rear disc brake. There are 12-inch wheels at both ends shod with 90-section tyres.
