Thar is offered with diesel and petrol engines along with both manual and automatic transmission options. The petrol engine of Thar is of 1997cc while the diesel engine is 1497cc . The Mahindra Thar SUV’s 4×4 variants get a new colour option, Everest White, that was previously only offered on the 2WD variant. With that, the 4×4 model gets a total of five colour options – Napoli Black, Red Rage, Galaxy Grey, Aquamarine and Everest White.

The rear-wheel-drive Thar continues to get a total of six colour options, including the Blazing Bronze shade that’s exclusive to the 2WD model.

The Thar diesel base model price starts at Rs. 10.98 Lakh while the Thar petrol top model is priced at Rs. 16.26 Lakh. Thar automatic model price starts from Rs. 13.77 Lakh and is available in 4 options.

Features of Mahindra Thar

The Thar packs a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment which features off-road stats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, roof mounted speakers, manual air conditioner, steering mounted audio controls, a multi-info display, power windows and keyless entry. Mahindra offers it with safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and a roll cage. The Thar boasts a Global NCAP crash test score of four stars.

Mahindra Thar Engine

The Mahindra Thar off-roader SUV comes with three engine options: a 118PS/300Nm 1.5-litre diesel, a 130PS/300Nm 2.2-litre diesel and a 150PS/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol. The 1.5-litre diesel and 2-litre turbo-petrol can be had with rear-wheel drive, while the turbo-petrol and larger diesel engine are offered with four-wheel drive. A 6-speed manual is offered as standard, however, the automatic option is limited to the 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. The Thar boasts a water wading ability of 650mm, an approach angle of 41.8 degree, departure angle of 36.8 degree and rampover angle of 27 degree. It’s underpinned by a ladder frame chassis and sits on independent double wishbone suspension at the front and multi link coil springs at the rear.

Mahindra Thar Variants

Mahindra retails the Thar in two variants: AX Opt and LX.

The off-roader SUV can be had in two body styles: a convertible soft top and a fixed hard top. The petrol powered AX variant only gets a convertible top, while the remaining variants can be had with either option.
