Renault City K-ZE Summary

Renault is betting big on electric for the future across all markets and India will be no different. Its main contender will be the City K-ZE which is essentially an electric car with the body of the Kwid hatchback.

Already on sale in China, it packs a 26.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack and the front-axle mounted motor produces 44bhp of power and 125Nm of torque. It is capable of hitting a top speed of 105kmph and at a constant 60kmph, the claimed range is 350 kilometres while under the NEDC cycle it is around 271 kilometres. It is underpinned by Renault CMF-A platform that is also used by cars like the Kwid, Triber and the Datsun Redigo.

In terms of appearance, the City K-ZE sports the same exterior design as the facelifted Kwid that was launched in India last year. The headlamps are low set while the LED DRLs are on level with the chrome grille which also houses the charging port. The interiors are exactly the same as that of the regular Kwid right down to the position of the drive selector dial. It measures the same as the ICE powered Kwid in terms of dimensions thus offering the same kind space within the cabin as well as in terms of boot capacity.

The City K-ZE when launched will be a rival for the likes of electric cars from Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Hyundai.
