Release Date
Citroen is expected to join the electric vehicle bandwagon in India with the launch of an EV version of their C3 hatchback-which-looks-like-an-SUV. Likely to be called the EC3, the new EV is expected to be priced in the same league as the recently launched Tata Tiago EV. The new EC3 is scheduled to be launched sometime in early 2023.
Powertrain
No details are available as yet on what the Citroen C3 EV will be powered by. Speculation online suggests it will get a battery as large as 50kWh (the Tiago EV Long Range has a 24kWh battery) and a range of more than 300km on a full charge (the Tiago EV Long Range has a claimed range of 315km). More details are awaited.
Features
The Citroen EC3 is expected to carry forward the feature list as seen on the standard/internal combustion engine-powered C3. This should also mean that it will carry over the built-to-a-price interior quality and customisable exterior and interior trims. From the spy shots, we know that the Citroen EC3 will not look any different from the C3 unless you spot the door for the charging port on the front right fender. Citroen may play around with the colour of the exterior trim and wheel cover design to set the EV version apart visually. More details are awaited.
Price
We expect the C3’s EV-version to be priced in the Rs 9-13 lakh (ex-showroom) price bracket.
Rivals
The only direct rivals for the Citroen EC3 in the budget EV market will be the Tata Tigor sedan and the newly launched Tiago EV hatchback. It will be the only SUV-looking EV in this price segment, significantly undercutting the likes of the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Max and the upcoming Mahindra XUV400. The segment is expected to see some competition from major players like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai much later, allowing Citroen to gain a foothold in the Indian market.
