The Innova is one of the best selling MPV in the Indian market. However, it is now quite old and requires a total refresh. Fortunately, Toyota is working on a new generation of Innova. It is expected to be called Innova Hycross considering the manufacturer filed for a trademark. According to Autocar India, Toyota could launch the new generation of MPV by Diwali this year.

New platform
The current Innova Crysta is based on IMV platform. IMV is a ladder-frame chassis that is also being used for the Hilux pick-up truck and the Fortuner. The new Fortuner will be based on a more car-like monocoque chassis which should help in enhancing the ride quality.
The new-gen Innova will be based on TNGA-C or just GA-C (Global Architecture C). This is the same platform that is used for Corolla. Some of the design elements could be taken from the Toyota Voxy and Noah that are sold in Japan. The 2022 Innova could also be loosely based on the 670B.
Toyota has codenamed it 560B and it is expected to measure 4.7 metres in length. This means that it will be slightly shorter than the current Innova Crysta. However, the space will be used more efficiently because of the new platform.
The cabin space will be further increased because of the longer wheelbase. The current Innova has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm whereas the new Innova will have a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. That is a good 100 mm of additional wheelbase. The new Innova will be slightly less wide than the current Innova Crysta. But because of the new Global Architecture C platform, the C-pillars will be more up-right which means there would be more space in the cabin.
Moreover, the new platform also helps in reducing weight. In fact, the new-gen Innova will be 170 kgs lighter than the current Innova Crysta. That is a log of weight savings which should also help in increasing fuel economy.
New engine
The Innova Hycross will no longer be offered with a diesel engine. It is expected that Toyota will use a 2.0-litre hybrid engine which could be a localized version of Toyota Hybrid System II. So, the running costs should be low. It would come with a twin-motor setup that is more efficient and lighter.
New exterior & interior
Being a new generation means that there will be major updates to the interior as well as the exterior. Toyota has tried to make the new MPV look like a SUV. So, there is a flat bonnet and sleek headlamps with a projector setup. They do have some design elements from the Fortuner.
Usually, the vehicles based on the GA-C platform use sliding rear doors. But as we have seen from the spy shots that is not the case with the new-gen Innova. All the features will be updated so expect a new cabin design. Being a family hauler, expect Toyota to also offer captain seats with the new Innova.
There would be features like a new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a high-end speaker system, push-button to start/stop the engine, a new instrument cluster, a new multi-function steering wheel, cruise control and much more.
