Yamaha MT 15 V2 Latest Updates
The Yamaha MT-15 V2 is all set to get its BS6.2 emission updates, as the RTO documents have surfaced online confirming the presence of an OBD-2 sensor. Head here for more details on what the update will bring to the sport naked.

The Yamaha MT-15 is essentially the Yamaha R15 but in a more comfortable streetfighter package. While the updated MT-15 Version 2.0 commands a significant price hike over its predecessor, the new Yamaha MT-15 misses out on a lot of important updates, read all about in our launch story. Yamaha MT 15 V2 Engine
Powering the Yamaha MT-15 is a 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled 4-valve motor rated at 18.4PS at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm at 7500rpm. While the engine displacement is the same as the older bike, power and torque figures are down by 0.1PS and 0.2Nm. We think Yamaha may have detuned the engine to improve fuel economy. Engine outputs compared to the BS4 version are lower — 0.7PS and 0.6Nm to be precise. The new MT-15 shares its engine with the older bike, and also uses the same deltabox frame, rear monoshock and braking hardware. However, the rear swingarm used on the MT-15 V2 is now a cast aluminium unit and it sports an inverted fork as seen on the R15 V4. Sadly, the updated MT-15 still does not get dual-channel ABS, even as an option.
Yamaha MT 15 V2 Variants
The new Yamaha MT-15 is only available in a single variant. It’s offered in five colour options – Cyan Storm, Racing Blue, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition, Ice Fluo-Vermillion and Metallic Black.

Yamaha MT 15 V2 Design
There isn’t any visual difference between the new MT-15 and its predecessor. Sadly, Yamaha designers haven’t given it a radical makeover as they did with the new R15 V4. Having said that, it still continues to remain a sporty and modern-looking bike. The updated MT-15 could have taken design inspiration from the new Yamaha MT-03, which would have made it look even more menacing.
Yamaha MT 15 V2 Features
The Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0 continues to feature LED DRLs, LED projector headlight and taillight. The fully digital instrument console has been redesigned and the new Yamaha bike features Bluetooth connectivity for call, SMS and email alerts. However, the MT-15 still misses out on navigation. Unlike the Yamaha R15 V4, the new bike also doesn’t come with a quickshifter or traction control system, even as an option. Moreover, it still gets single-channel ABS as standard, with no signs of a dual-channel variant in the offing. On the mechanical front, the new MT-15 still gets Variable Valve Actuation. The tech allows the 155cc engine to generate peak engine performance at higher revs without having to compensate for lack of low- to mid-range grunt.
Yamaha MT 15 V2 Competitors
The MT-15 Version 2.0 competes against the KTM 125 Duke, which retails for a premium of around Rs 13,600 despite being down on both power and features. Summing up, the updated Yamaha MT-15 receives a bunch of noticeable updates, which should make it an even better bike. But given the pricing, we feel Yamaha India could have done a better job as the MT-15 Version 2.0 still feels a bit half-baked.
